In his view technology advances over the last 25 years have resulted in new paradigms for small businesses and the professionals who support them.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In blog post published last year, Doug Sleeter, Founder of The Sleeter Group, identified four key trends he sees facing the accounting profession today. He has said that &#8216;chunkification&#8217;, the splitting up of the overall business management systems into discrete parts, &#8216;zero entry&#8217;, &#8216;collaborative accounting&#8217; and &#8216;mobile&#8217; will &#8220;fundamentally change the way small business owners, bookkeepers, accountants, and even taxing agencies, will use technology in their everyday activities.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Sleeter&#8217;s views are certainly interesting and raise significant questions for anyone working within the accounting industry. While each of us may see different elements of the trends he describes in our daily activities, he certainly makes you consider the bigger picture and ways accounting professionals can be prepared for the future.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Next month Doug will be in Australia presenting his views at the Reckon National Conference. In his presentation he&#8217;ll speak about how accounting professionals can thrive by re-thinking and re-tooling.
